152 15 Apr 10 Eretmochelys imbricata Stuffed specimen, facing left w/ head elevated, on plain white background. Gold-colored logo in upper right corner w/ "4.15" inscribed on logo. Available perf and imperf. Crewmen of Japanese ship "Dowamaru" presented this stuffed turtle to President Kim Il Sung on his 60th birthday. The issuing agency lists the issue date as 15 April 2010 but it was available from dealers many weeks before that date (which is fairly common w/ North Korean stamps).

SC 1298 40j 20 Mar 75 Mythological Turtle Tortoise-serpent and snake from 7th century painting on wall of the large tomb in Kangso. Represents a dragon w/ a turtle's shell. Formerly listed here as MI 1347.

SC 1869 a Various 09 Oct 79 Stylized Tortoise Tortoise in right border of s/s of six stamps, all depicting birds. Commemorates the Central Zoo in Taesongsan. Formerly listed here (incorrectly) as SG N 1884-9.

SC 2305 b 35ch 30 May 83 Tortoise Ships One of the tortoise ship stamps from Scott North Korea #2305. This stamp also depicts Admiral Li Sun Sin (1545-1598), the inventor of ironclad warships and the tortoise ships in particular. It was formerly listed on this site as North Korea MI 2368. This was before Scott began listing North Korean stamps.

SC 2381 80ch 19 Jun 84 Tortoise Ship Miniature s/s of one stamp. The stamp depicts Scott North Korea #2305a which shows a tortoise ship. It also depicts a large German sailing ship below the stamp-on-stamp. Both the stamp and the selvedge of the sheet contain the logo of the Zum XIX Weltpost Kongress, held in Hamburg in 1984 and the symbol of the Universal Postal Union.

SC 2381 var. 80 19 Jun 84 Tortoise Ship Stamp on stamp. This stamp depicts Scott North Korea #2305a, as well as a more modern ship. It was issued for XIX Weltpost Kongress, Hamburg, 1984. This is the single stamp from Scott North Korea #2381. Scott does not list the single stamp, only the s/s, so it is listed here as #2381var (variety). It was formerly listed on this web site as MI 2474.

SC 2801 40j 01 Jan 89 Mythological Turtle A 7th century mural w/ a Tortoise-serpent and a snake. May represent a dragon w/ a turtle's shell. Identical to the tortoise-serpent on other Korean stamps. This stamp was formerly listed on this site as North Korea MI 2985. This was before Scott began listing North Korean stamps.

SC 3155 a 50j 24 Oct 92 Unidentified Sea Turtle Sheetlet of three 50j whale stamps w/ a sea turtle in border of sheet. This is Sheet II of two whale sheets issued on the same date. No turtles on stamps. Date has also been reported as 20 Oct 92. This sheet was formerly listed on this site as North Korea SG N 3211-13. This was before Scott began listing North Korean stamps.

SC 3356 1.80 won 20 Jun 94 Tortoise Ship Stamp card (86 x 54 mm), w/ six airmail stamps (86 x 9 mm), each in the form of a horizontal strip w/ a tortoise ship on it. This card was formerly listed on this site as SG N 3411a, before Scott began listing North Korean stamps.

SC 3356 a-f 1.80 won 20 Jun 94 Tortoise Ship The six horizontal strip stamps on Scott North Korea #3356. Each one is assigned a suffix of "a" through "f". Some of the six stamps are identical to each other and once peeled off of the backing paper they would be impossible to distinguish.

SC 4391 Various 10 Aug 04 Unidentified Sea Turtle Sheet of four se-tenant stamps, all depicting freshwater fish. Turtle in lower left selvedge. Although the fish are all freshwater species, the turtle is a sea turtle.

SC 4466 Various 31 Oct 05 Stone Turtle S/S of three 35 won stamps, one 75 won stamp and three labels, all depicting buildings (temples?) or large golden religious figures. One of the 35 won stamps depicts a stone turtle supporting a vertical column. Margin of sheet is a photo of wooded hills.

SC 4680 a Various 01 Jul 07 Three Species of Turtles Booklet pane consisting of a horizontal strip of four stamps, all depicting fish. Strip is surrounded by a narrow selvedge containing 28 small, simple drawings of marine and aquatic organisms. Three of these are turtles, appearing in the lower right corner. The turtles depicted are one sea turtle and two freshwater turtles. The sea turtle is a leatherback but the other two cannot be identified to genus or species.

SC 4746 var. 155 08 May 08 Unident. Freshwater Turt. S/S of four identical stamps depicting mushrooms. Small turtle near bottom edge of sheet, to the left of a large beetle. No turtles on stamps. Scott lists the stamps but does not list the s/s w/ the turtle.

SC 4871 Various 12 Sep 09 Unidentified Tortoise Mini sheet of five stamps plus one label, depicting different species of birds. Tortoise at bottom margin of sheet. No turtles on stamps. Sheet inscribed "Birdpex" at bottom right corner.

SC 4878 var. 15 20 Oct 09 Unidentified Chelonians Mini sheet of four identical stamps, each depicting a Jackson's Chamaeleon. Sheet margin depicts a small tortoise and a small freshwater turtle that may be a softshell. No turtles on stamps. The sheet of four identical stamps is not listed by Scott but each stamps is #4878.
