Most of the scientific names of turtles and tortoises in the main body of this web site were taken from the book Turtles of the World by Carl H. Ernst and Roger W. Barbour. However, that book was published in 1989 and there have been many revisions in chelonian taxonomy and nomenclature in the intervening twenty years.

Mr. James H. Rea has compiled a list of those revisions, which can be viewed at his site, Turtle Species on Stamps.
