In recent years various countries have experimented with "personal" stamps. These are stamps approved by postal authorities and issued by the postal authorities themselves or by private companies authorized to do so by the postal authorities. The stamps are unique in that private individuals can send in photographs of their choosing to be printed on the stamps or on an attached tab. The stamps are valid for postage but the buyer pays a premium above face value for the personalization.
