ABKHAZIA REPUBLIC

Abkhazia is a breakaway republic from Georgia. It is in a mountainous area on the Black Sea and has existed since June of 1992.

Or, it may be a Cinderella that wasn't authorized by either country.

SC 1471 12b 29 May 92 G. carbonaria & P. expan. A curious sheet, containing two each of Scott Venezuela 1471a, 1471b, 1471c, and 1471d, plus two WWF labels. There are extensive notes on the margins of the sheet, including notes about Podocnemis unifilis and Chelonia mydas, despite the fact that neither of these species appear on the stamps or anywhere on the sheet. The species appearing on this sheet (whose names are abbreviated under the "Turtle" column at the left), are Geochelone carbonaria and Podocnemis expansa. The Scott number (#1471) appearing here is actually the number of the block of four. Scott does not list the sheet of eight herein described.
